Phase 02 — Mumford Learning Space

Why Mumford

The second Solvinter Edge node is located in Mumford, Ghana.

While the Accra node explores economic opportunity through digital work, the Mumford node explores how local AI can strengthen education, creativity and community development.

We do not begin with technology.

We begin with learning.

The objective is to create a place where children, teachers, entrepreneurs and creators can explore new possibilities together.

The Learning Space

The Mumford node is centred around a dedicated learning environment.

It is designed as a calm, aesthetically pleasing space where people can learn, create and collaborate.

Technology is only one part of the environment.

The space itself should encourage curiosity, creativity and lifelong learning.

Eira

The first educational platform developed within Solvinter Edge is Eira.

Eira is an open-source educational AI designed to operate locally, allowing schools to continue using AI even when Internet connectivity is unreliable.

Rather than replacing teachers, Eira is intended to become another educational resource available to schools and communities.

The Pilot

The first pilot will be conducted in one primary school in Mumford.

Initially the project will collaborate with one headteacher, one classroom teacher and one Upper Primary classroom (Basic 4–6).

The first subject will be Mathematics before gradually expanding to additional subjects.

Principles

Teacher First

Teachers remain central to education. AI should support rather than replace professional educators.

Local First

Educational infrastructure should continue functioning even when the Internet does not.

Human–AI Collaboration

Human expertise and artificial intelligence should complement one another.

Open Source

Educational technology should be transparent, reproducible and openly shared whenever possible.
